Rat Pirates

This is a picture I did last year. I grew up with lots of local stories
about pirates and the sea and haunted lighthouses.
I also loved ( and still love ) Beatrix Potter. So I ended up with
the tale of two bad rat pirates.....

Faces

I love that I can share my sketches in a forum like this. I get so much enjoyment out of looking at other peoples sketch book, it's like looking at someones thoughts. My thoughts are a little messy.

I took these images from various sketch books that I've kept over the last few months. I go through about one sketch book a month. I've been collecting them since I was fourteen, I have a library of sketch books.

I start teaching art soon and I'm getting a little nervous.

However, the weather is really lovely. The humidity has lifted and my paintings have stopped curling up. My wife, Julie and I are going to an animation festival tonight. It's being held in someones back yard and I think quite a few people are coming. So it's hard to be in a bad mood.

HELP! My apartment has been invaded
by very small wind-up robots.

Martian Afternoon

This is a pretty new picture I did for my portfolio. I wish there was more science fiction for kids. I loved space opera when I was in Elementary school.
I have been working on a comic book for kids. It's called the Robot Museum. It's a futuristic mystery that takes place in a robot museum. I packed it full of all my favorite SF stuff: ray guns, robots, jet packs, aliens with green skin...Just the fun stuff.
I'll be postings updates on that project as I work on it.
If anyone knows any cool, fun science fiction for the elementary school crowd please let me know.

A Forest for Christmas

My First book is out! It was written by Michael Harris who wrote a story that is so magical I just had to follow his lead.
The launch will be sometime in September, it will be held in Lunenburg here in NovaScotia, which is a pretty magical place itself. I'll post some photos from the event when it happens.
I've also added a couple of my favorite pictures from the book.
I hope it's available in a local store but if not here it is on amazon:
( Wow that's a long address! )

And here are the robots!

This is for a comic book

called The Robot Museum,

which is a futuristic mystery

that takes place in a...well,

robot museum.

The robots are for a comic book I'm working on called The Robot Museum.

I've taken everything Ithink is cool about science fiction and stuffed it into

one comic book. It takes place in the future and it's a mystery in a museum for robots.

Here's some sketches:

Robots and pirates

Right now I have a couple of books on the go. The first is about pirates and the second is about robots.

The pirate story is for a new picture book I'm working on for Nimbus Publishing called the Stinky Pirate, it still in pretty early stages. Here are some character sketches.
